Icon of the Seas will be a groundbreaking ship for Royal Caribbean, introducing new venues, attractions and accommodation styles while returning or evolving fan favorites from past ships. Though the ship will be the line's largest, it will employ proven strategies to minimize crowding, though passengers will need to book quickly to obtain their preferred restaurant and show reservations. The Coastal Kitchen restaurant returns, but it will be two decks high on Icon of the Seas. The line is also expanding its suite sun deck concept into the multistory The Grove, with lounge space, a pool and a hot tub. Cabanas will be available to rent in this neighborhood, but there'll be plenty of free lounge space.

ICON ships also have a new (patented design) crew cabin type with an L-shaped bed layout. At first glance, I had snubbed the dining and lounge area as a rip-off of a generic airport coffee shop. But during my three days on Icon, I returned to the centrally located space more often than expected. There's a reason Royal Caribbean's new mega-cruise ship is only operating seven-night sailings. Finally, Royal Caribbean unveiled the Ultimate Family Townhouse, which is sure to be the biggest and most impressive suite that you can find anywhere at sea.
Decks and Cabins
The 2-level Fitness Center (decks 5-6) consists of a Gymnasium (complimentary, with Life Fitness equipment for cardio/resistance training), Aerobics Studio (for classes), and private training rooms. The Gym has modern bodybuilding and training exercise equipment (free weights, weight machines, treadmills, steppers, ellipticals, stationary bikes, Kinesis wall). In the mornings/afternoons are scheduled health seminars and wellness presentations (free of charge/timeshare events). The Main Dining Room/MDR is on 3 levels (decks 3-4-5) and is traditionally positioned aft. The MDR has a different 3-course menu each night of the voyage (with differently-themed cuisine) and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Icon of the Seas Bars & Nightlife
Onboard Icon of the Seas, you’ll find 179 suites, 1,800 balcony staterooms, 276 ocean view staterooms and 535 interior staterooms. 1400 Lobby Bar will open the Royal Promenade to the sea with an ocean-facing terrance. Grab a drink developed by Tony Abou-Ganim, a world renowned mixologist, in this venue that was inspired by the history of shipbuilding.
And when the sun goes down, your night lights up with possibilities. With over 15 buzzing spots and live music venues, every evening onboard overflows with ways to raise the bar on spirit-sipping and show-stopping. Chill Island will have ocean views galore from the three-deck pool area. Icon of the Seas will have Swim & Tonic, the first swim-up bar at sea. When the space isn't being used for a show, passengers can take in wraparound ocean views and enjoy views of the waterfall as they enjoy a bite or drink. Icon of the Seas successfully completed its first round of sea trials in June.
